Hello everyone! I have just moved from types.pl to try out this instance by ACM. Since my toots were not migrated with me, let me introduce myself again.
My name is Yao Li (李垚). I am currently an assistant professor at Portland State University. My research area is programming languages/formal verification/interactive theorem proving. Always happy to chat with people about research or general things about programming languages!

Nope. The entire history of software engineering is one of rising levels of abstraction.

Wrote ~23 blog posts this year and here are the 7 I'm most proud of.
Basically all about #databases and #distributedsystems, and mostly about building them from scratch.

For the holiday, a thread on how to befriend crows.
--
Befriending crows is a wonderful thing.
I have many crow friends at home and at work. They bring joy at unexpected moments and can rescue a miserable day even without shaking down the dust of snow that Robert Frost described.
This thread is an updated version of one I posted at the bird site in July 2019.

Hey computer science and IT security students from South Asia! Are you interested in doing an internship at CISPA in Germany? https://jobs.cispa.saarland/jobs/detail/cispa-summer-voluntary-internship-program-south-asia-197

Today, my Ph.D. student Alexander Kampmann successfully defended his thesis on #Alhazen, a tool that automatically determines failure circumstances: “The program crashes when an input line has more than 1024 characters”. Congratulations, Dr. Kampmann!

Hi! I am a professor working to better understand and help early-stage founders succeed while avoiding or coping with the negative person-level impacts of #entrepreneurship.
Research interests include wellbeing, emotion, creativity, impression management, and motives and I explore these mainly using computational and experimental methods (with #rstats). In a previous career, I built software and startups.
